Ben Jacobs

Co-founder and CEO of Whistle
Ben co-founded Whistle as an Entrepreneur in Residence at DCM Ventures in Menlo Park, Calif., combining a personal love of animals with his academic and professional experience across the U.S. and China. Ben was inspired to find a way for people to better understand and care for our pets - everyone’s favorite family members.

Whistle launched with the Whistle Activity Monitor in summer 2013, catalyzing the pet tech category and the conversation around the role technology can play in a pet's overall health. After hearing from customers that many owners fear losing their pet, Whistle focused on bringing a location monitoring solution to the platform - culminating in the acquisition of Tagg, a former Qualcomm subsidiary, and integration of best-in-breed GPS tracking hardware with Whistle software.

Prior to launching Whistle, Ben received his B.A. and M.A. in East Asian Studies at Yale University. After college, he worked as a consultant at Bain, where he was able to work closely with great brands and organizations across various fields, including technology, private equity and consumer goods.

Today, Ben oversees the Whistle team as it maintains its position as the category leader in pet technology with its latest device and mobile app, the Whistle GPS Pet Tracker. Owners use the pet tracker to ensure their pet doesn't become lost, while also tracking daily activity. The startling truth is 1 in 3 pets get lost in their lifetime - with 10 million pets lost in the U.S. each year. Whistle believes that we can do better than that. We are on a mission to equip owners everywhere with a simple tool to stay connected to their pet and provide the best care for their best friends.

Adam Little

Executive Director, Veterinary Innovation Summit

Adam Little works at the intersection of accelerating technologies and veterinary medicine to help solve some of our world’s biggest problems. His entrepreneurial approach to global animal health creates more opportunities for veterinarians to tackle challenges ranging from companion animal medicine to food security and infectious disease spread.

As a champion for the evolution of his profession, Little sees a near future in which real-time, personalized medicine for each animal on this planet is possible. And he believes veterinarians are the drivers of that future, leading global change that will benefit every man, woman, child and animal.

Why Attend the Veterinary Innovation Summit?

We are entering an incredibly exciting time for our profession. The acceleration of technologies – such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things, biotechnology, genomics, big data and ubiquitous computing, present veterinarians with the opportunity to deliver more personalized, accessible and ultimately impactful care to all species and stakeholders.

However, this pace of change is accelerating and traditional approaches to education, research, and service are proving no longer sufficient. From Kodak to Instagram, Blockbuster to Netflix, Hotels to AirBnb, industries are being upended by this pace of change. Our care model is outdated, student debt is overburdening, career diversity is limited and veterinary fulfillment and career satisfaction remains too low.

A new model of learning is required; one which harnesses the disruptors working at the fringes of our profession, focuses on their potential impact, works in collaboration with the industry and provides training for both current students and the existing generation of practitioners in these emerging fields. Achieving this requires a new platform to engage our existing profession and invite new collaborators.

The Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences joined forces with the NAVC to introduce this new model to you: the Veterinary Innovation Summit. You won’t want to miss it!
